Hoeltzer Ernst Hoeltzer (1835-1911) was a German engineer and one of the pioneer photographers in Iran in the 19th century. He came to this country during the rule of Naser al-Din Shah Qajar and spent about twenty years of his life in Isfahan. For a long time, his impressive collection of photographs was believed to have been lost, until it was found by a lucky accident in the house of Hoeltzer’s granddaughter Ricoletta in Munster, Germany. Hoeltzer’s legacy was first published in Iran in 1976. The book was called “Iran One Hundred and Thirteen Years Ago” and included a concise selection of Hoeltzer’s photographs and diary notes. Recently, the Documentation Center of the Iranian Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization published a new book, “Thousand Sights of Life”, aimed at better introducing Ernst Hoeltzer to a wide audience. The new publication embraces an ample array of Hoeltzer’s photographs, complemented by his substantial notes. It also includes an in-depth study on his life and work.

درباره هولتسرارنست هولتسر (1835-1911) مهندس آلمانی، یکی از عکاسان پیشگام نیمه‏ی دوم قرن نوزدهم میلادی است که در زمان حکومت ناصرالدین شاه به کشور ما آمد و نزدیک به بیست سال از عمر خود را در اصفهان گذراند. مجموعه‏ی چشمگیر عکس‏ها‏ی هولتسر، سال‏ها از نظر پنهان بود و بر اثر یک اتفاق، در خانه‏ی ریکولتا، نوه‏ی او، در مانستر آلمان به دست آمد.نخستین بار، در سال 1355 هجری شمسی، عکس‏های هولتسر از اصفهان همراه با یادداشت‏های او در کتابی به نام ایران در یک‏صد و سیزده سال پیش چاپ شد. بدون تردید این کتاب گنجینه‏ای با ارزش بود؛ اما بدون جلد دوم، ناتمام تلقی می‏شد.پس از سال‏ها، به همت مرکز اسناد و مدارک میراث فرهنگی، کتاب هزار جلوه‏ی زندگی به زیور چاپ آراسته شد. در این کتاب، مجموعه‏ی کاملی از عکس‏ها و یادداشت‏های قابل توجه هولتسر، همراه با تحقیق مستقلی درباره‏ی زندگی و کار این شیفته‏ی ایران و ایرانی، ارائه شده است. امید که چاپ این کتاب، زمینه‏ای برای معرفی ارنست هولتسر و عکس‏های ارزشمند او باشد.
